Leading international construction and transportation publisher

The Team - Editorial

Roger Adshead Chairman/Business Development Director

Roger Adshead

With four decades’ experience in B2B publishing for construction, infrastructure and transportation, I focus on new opportunities, new channels, and innovations across the business, and develop new and effective ways for ideas to be shared within the B2B community.

Partner to a wonderful yoga-teacher wife, and proud father of twin daughters that are both digital designers. Hobbies include: cars and the automotive industry; sports; walking; cooking; yoga; movies; home improvement; design; writing; magazine production; and the family dog!

Andrew Barriball Managing Director, ROPL & Publisher, ITS International

Andrew Barriball

I’m an active member of ROPL’s management team and have been the publisher of ITS International since 1995. I’ve run all Daily News projects at the major international traffic/transport shows in the sector since 2000.

I want the ITS sector to be rightly recognised for the substantial progress it is making to the safe and environmentally sensitive movement of goods and people, using multiple forms of surface transportation.

I initially worked in the Middle East as a reporter for Kuwait Times, but swiftly left when Gulf War 1 broke out! In the UK, I worked for Westminster Press, Reed Business Publishing, and two massive US publishers (IDG Communications & CMP) before moving to ROPL in 1995. I’m husband to Wendy, father of Alex and Becky, am a life-long golfer – and I was a reasonable rugby player before injury and age caught up with me. I relish international travel, even now, for both business and pleasure. I’m a wine enthusiast (drinker not connoisseur); red, white or rose – I’m entirely flexible!

James Howard Internet, IT & Data Services Director

James Howard

Sometimes called Mr Fix it. I am responsible for all the internet sites, data, IT, office and exhibition logistics as well as helping in the major decisions of running a company in the UK and US.

My passion for the business is making it work as efficiently as I can. Systems and hardware are some of the things that make sure we are advanced and ahead of the industry in how we run and tackle things. This helps all our fantastic colleagues carry out their roles better.

We have had the most advanced websites in our industry for nearly 20 years and we will maintain the edge, taking our advertisers and readers with us.

I have been in publishing, sales, marketing and data for over 30 years so feeling old now.

Moving my home to a smart home to make it more efficient has been a passion – along with fishing, which takes me so far away from what I do in my working day. It has been one of my most relaxing hobbies since childhood. My wife Frances, who works in a school, and two children – Emily, who is a teacher, and Joshua, who is at university to become a doctor – makes me very proud and the career worthwhile.

Geoff Hadwick Editorial Director and Publisher, Route One Publishing Ltd.

Geoff Hadwick

My job is to make sure that we deliver top quality, informed, and authoritative content across all our titles, no matter what the format. Our aim is to provide the best business information service in the market to a truly global audience of senior decision-makers. We can only win their respect and following by making sure that our magazine, website, newsletter, video, and podcast channels are interesting, intelligent, reliable and entertaining. So that’s what we do.

I am a widely experienced publisher and editor, having run a wide variety of leading business-to-business publications and real-time online news and data services over the years. I have edited seven different titles, including four weeklies, and published a dozen more. Along the way I have also managed industry award schemes, conferences and debates and won the PPA Editor, Campaign, and Magazine of the Year awards amongst others. I’m also a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Husband, grandfather, football fan, music lover, film buff, inept gardener and very bad amateur artist. Never one for the obvious or conventional, I am a long-term and long-suffering season ticket holder at Fulham Football Club and an even longer-term (some might say ancient) member of Ronnie Scott’s jazz club. Fantasy alter ego: jazz drummer in the Miles Davis quintet.

Mike Woof Editor, World Highways

Mike Woof

I cover the global road construction market, reporting the news on projects and developments in technology.

I’m interested in construction, having previously been an engineer. Prior to editing World Highways I was editor of World Mining Equipment and reported on the global mining machinery sector, while prior to that I was a journalist on the UK magazine Construction News.

I like travelling the world, and enjoy a range of activities such as motorcycling and live music. I’m a keen cyclist, racing BMX bikes as well as being a qualified BMX coach.

David Arminas Deputy editor of World Highways & Editor of Road Surface Technology Review

David Arminas

If you drive, bicycle or walk on it, then I write about it. I try to bring the latest news, technological developments and on-site reports to our global audience. Why do I do what I do? Curiosity – a desire to see what makes things tick.

I’m Canadian by birth, also British by parental nationality. I was educated in Canada and the UK and have worked full-time on various trade publications as well as freelancing for newspapers and international reporting for US newswire United Press International.

Outside work I can often be seen – unattractively, apparently, according to my colleagues – sporting cycling Lycra. When not pedalling a bicycle in the UK and France, I can be spotted, if you are quick, pounding through the trees on black runs in Canadian skiing resorts in deepest winter.

Adam Hill Editor, ITS International

Adam Hill

I seek out the most interesting intelligent transportation developments and trends worldwide and bring them to an esteemed international readership of transport professionals.

Husband, father and unashamed transport geek, rarely happier than when on public transit or talking to those much cleverer than myself about how to get people and goods moving more safely, efficiently and sustainably. My job is simple: I ask the stupid questions.

Outside the office, I am a member of the Daily News editorial team reporting from key industry events around the world. My cricketing talent remains bewilderingly unrecognised by wider world. Spirit animal: WG Grace.

Guy Woodford Editor, Aggregates Business Europe/International

Guy Woodford

I strive to write engaging, thought-provoking, and informative features and news stories on the global quarrying equipment and quarried materials industries. I also manage an experienced and talented team of freelancers that add greatly to ABE and ABI’s content.

I want to ensure daily that our knowledgeable and savvy readers are fully informed about developments within the global quarrying industry they are so passionate about. Having our editorial coverage in the mix in their business decision-making is a constant goal.

Before ROPL I was crime correspondent of the Nottingham Post, and had reporting roles on a variety of local and regional newspapers.

I am married to Helen, who runs Create! art school in a purpose-built studio next to our home. I am also a proud dad of two (mostly) lovely daughters, Poppy and Matilda. I have been a keen Crystal Palace FC supporter since childhood. I also have a soft spot for Celtic FC, which included my time as goalkeeper for the Edinburgh Combined Universities’ Celtic Supporters Club. Two other sporting loves are Wasps rugby club (which will hopefully be resurrected after going into administration in the 2022/23 season), and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. My whole family enjoy watching matches at Trent Bridge as often as possible. I enjoy keeping fit and love reading books, magazines, and newspapers, especially about politics, economics, history, languages, and culture. In fact, I have way too many subscriptions to do full justice to.

Liam McLoughlin Managing Editor, Electric Vehicle Charging & Infrastructure & Assistant Editor, Aggregates Business Europe/International

Liam McLoughlin

I am Managing Editor of the Electric Vehicle Charging & Infrastructure news and features website.

I also write news stories and features for the Aggregates Business website and for our Aggregates Business Europe and Aggregates Business International printed publications.

I enjoy the challenge of bringing interesting stories to life in two vastly different but fascinating and dynamic industries.

Prior to Route One I worked for the Nottingham Evening Post, The Grocer magazine, the BBC and C&M Publications. I like watching and playing sport and listening to music. I can happily sit through both home performances by Notts County F.C. and lengthy prog rock concept albums.

Daniel Emmerson Sales Director, ITS International

Daniel Emmerson

I work with clients to ensure they get the best value and coverage from their marketing budget. If they succeed with a great campaign, we all win.

I was always called a chatterbox at school, so have found my calling in sales. Working life started with the best Saturday job ever in a computer and video shop.

Hobbies: family, golf, football (soccer), bowls, tech & IT, Star Wars, and musicals – my dad was in the Les Mis movie for about two frames. Blink and you’ll miss it!

Favourite places: Orlando for the theme parks, Washington, Nashville, Mauritius, Barcelona and Bruges for the beer.

Philip Woodgate Sales Director Aggregates Group

Philip Woodgate

My role is to maximise revenue across Route One’s magazines, websites, video and social media channels, network with clients and industry influencers and representing the company at trade shows worldwide. I enjoy the daily interaction with clients and colleagues.

I am as passionate about publishing now as I was when I started my career 30+ years ago. I’ve worked in many markets in B2B, B2C, magazine publishing, websites and exhibitions.

In my leisure time I enjoy travel, cooking, ALL forms of motorsport and fast cars.

Graeme McQueen Head of Construction Sales

Graeme McQueen

I am responsible for revenue generation across our international construction portfolio.

I am a husband, and a father to a 20-year-old university student. I have been been in sales for more than 25 years – initially focused on financial markets before moving to the construction sector.

I am very interested in the new technology and innovations within the construction industry. I am also enjoying the transformation from print to digital and how these two mediums are working so effectively together. I love meeting new people and travelling and am fortunate to have travelled all over the world for both work and pleasure.

Originally from South Africa, I am a massive sports fan. I love them all but am passionate about rugby and cricket. My wife and I love renovating properties and we have just finished our eighth project. I don’t do any of the work, obviously, just managing the process, mainly because I am not sure which end of a screwdriver to hold.

Simon Ward Senior Designer

Simon Ward

I joined Route One publishing back in 1997 as a young whippersnapper fresh from university. My creative ideas and passion for good design haven’t faulted since.

When you design something right, you forge a positive experience, you influence what people think and you evoke an emotion that communicates across all boundaries. This has always been my mantra.

But, to achieve this goal, you need to clear your mind and reset your thoughts. There is no better way to do this than running.

What started out as fun at the age of 7, has become a way of life that has lasted to this day. Over the years I have competed at county and national level and I’m never happier than when I don my trainers.

Nowadays, I’m 7 again, and run for fun. If I’m not running, I’m running around my wife and 3 children plus a Vizsla dog!

Andy Taylder Designer

Andy Taylder

I handle all design related projects across the company’s global portfolio, including a variety of advertising/marketing material, corporate identity, websites, digital media, display graphics and production management. Work abroad on our Daily News publication created live on-site at numerous shows around the world, including Europe, US and Asia.

My alternative was a Lumberjack (which over the years has become more appealing!)

A dad and devoted football coach, in 2019 I helped set up an under-7s football team. Have since gone on to complete my FA coaching badges and other associated certificates. Alongside creative communication – including music (not jazz), art and photography – I enjoy the outdoors while walking, cycling or camping. Also learning to play the guitar badly.

Sarah Biswell Web Manager

Sarah Biswell

I manage the company’s websites and email marketing: the go-to person for any digital queries.

I like the creative side of my role; putting email templates together and seeing our Daily News show websites come to life. I also enjoy learning new skills to stay up to date with the ever-changing digital world. I started working at ROPL straight after graduating from university. I initially worked as a project manager before moving to the web team in 2017.

I love to travel as much as I can and visit new countries. During weekends I am usually brunching with friends or babysitting my niece.

Tatyana Mechkarova Social Media Manager

Tatyana Mechkarova

I look after our online brands’ presence by developing engaging social media strategies, content creation and managing digital projects and campaigns.

I am fascinated by and passionate about everything digital and social media-related. Social media have made the world a smaller place – today we can connect to people and brands, we can share and comment in real time. Thanks to social media we can sell and buy brands, we can build and destroy reputation – it is all about people and how they identify with the content online.

Outside work I live, eat and breathe social media, meanwhile I’m raising two mini social media geeks.

Kelly Thompson Office Manager

Kelly Thompson

Experienced office manager / administrative professional, with a demonstrated history of working in the publishing industry. Enthusiastic, driven, and eager to learn.

I have a passion to provide excellent support and will continue to be an extremely reliable and diligent colleague, managing tasks with a high level of efficiency.

Also love to socialise and have fun!

Toni Mitchell Finance Director

Toni Mitchell

I have 30 years of experience in accounts in multiple roles and different industries. To name a few: chief officer of finance in pensions, Directorship board for implantation of a CRM system, procedures manager for a social housing company and accountant for the construction Industry. I’m always striving to learn more and improve skill sets.

Outside work, I like to renovate houses and furniture and have a passion for painting.

Christine Halliday-Saddler Group Accounts Manager

Christine Halliday-Saddler

I have a very varied job. I am responsible for cashflow, purchase and sales ledgers, foreign currency trades and credit control and I love it all. Sadly, I like nothing more than getting all the ducks in a row. I love a spreadsheet!! I love working and that’s why I do it.

Outside the office I have fun. I race a small yacht with my husband on Saturdays. I run a drama group putting on shows once a year. I run a Christmas choir for enthusiastic people who (mostly) can’t sing. I organise the church worship group, I do agility with my dog, I ride my pony and in my spare time (!!) tend to our 4 acres.
